Job Responsibilities

General Function

The Superintendent/SSHO is responsible for the supervision of all field activities related to the physical construction. The superintendent must control all aspects of the project site to achieve the final product, quality, and schedule. The superintendent is responsible for implementing and enforcing the company safety program and is the direct point of contact for safety and enforcement of all safety regulations and policies.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Generates, secures, or otherwise confirms all information needed to create, monitor, and modify the progress schedule on a continuing basis
  • Implements the company’s health and safety program; conducts and/or participates in associated training, safety meetings and inspections
  • Performs a wide variety of skilled (and sometimes complex) carpentry and/or labor related activities
  • Implements site safety and emergency plans
  • Gives input regarding project estimates for future work
  • Develops the progress schedule with the Project Manager or Operations Manager
  • Participates in scope reviews of the various bid packages to properly coordinate their respective interfaces and ensure nothing has been missed
  • Works with the Project Manager to develop and administer the site utilization program, site services, security arrangements, and other facilities and arrangements necessary for appropriate service to the construction effort
  • Monitors actual versus required performance by all parties
  • Complete oversight of all subcontractors ensuring workforce size, hours worked, etc. is sufficient to support contract requirements
  • Establishes a punch list and close-out procedures list
  • Ensures all subcontracts, material purchases, submittals, deliveries, clarifications, and changes are processed on time and comply with contract requirements
  • Prepares daily reports, job diaries, narratives, and all other documentation as determined by the company and by the project needs
  • Enforces all regulatory, base and company specific safety rules
  • Performs job site inspections for both quality and safety.Communicates and supports a proactive culture of Safety
  • Implements site safety and emergency plans
  • Performs other duties as are appropriate and as assigned

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of EM 385-1-1, 30 Nov 2014
  • EM 385 8 hour
  • OSHA 30 hour
  • HAZWOPER – Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response certification
  • CPR – First Aid certification
  • Gathers all information necessary to create, monitor, and modify the progress schedule on a continuing basis
  • Identifies field-construction and work-sequence considerations when finalizing bid package purchases
  • Enforces all regulatory, base and company specific safety rules
  • Significant experience with earned value reporting and baseline management
  • Demonstrated ability to work accurately, follow procedures and schedules, and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Proficiency with all MS Office products (Word, Excel, Project)
  • Ability to work in a team environment and fit in with company culture and processes
  • Effective professional oral and written communication skills
  • Must possess a strong work ethic and values that are above-reproach
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal skills

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or an ICC B2 Certified Inspector or related educational background is preferred.

Experience: Possess at least six (6) years’ experience employed with a general contractor in a position dedicated to the execution of construction projects with magnitudes from $2M to $15M.  Experience on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Projects preferred.

In addition, applicant must demonstrate five (5) out of the past five (5) years of continuous construction industry safety experience in supervising/managing general construction projects (managing safety programs or processes or conducting hazard analyses and developing controls).  Applicant must also have maintained competency through having taken 8 hours of documented formal, on-line or self-study and health related coursework every year.        


A combination of experience and education that demonstrates the required skills, knowledge, and abilities will be considered.
