Job Description
North Wind Portage, a subsidiary of North Wind Group, has an immediate opening for a Technical Editor in Carlsbad, New Mexico. This position is employed by the Carlsbad Field Office (CBFO) Technical Assistance Contractor (CTAC), and supports the Department of Energy (DOE) Carlsbad Field Office in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
 
The responsibilities of this position include:  
  • Working closely with DOE Carlsbad Field Office to develop, edit, rewrite, and format new documents, and revise existing documents including, but not limited to, technical and management reports, plans, procedures, manuals, audit and surveillance reports, work instructions, presentations, and correspondence. 
  • Incorporate review comments from external and internal technical, quality assurance, management, and legal reviewers. 
  • Ensure all documents meet established standards of format and content and are completed within schedule and deadline constraints. 
  • Perform pre-publication quality checks on completed documents to ensure author-approved review comments have been incorporated and final documents comply with applicable format requirements. 
  • Support client document control activities, as necessary, to ensure that electronic and hard-copy control of company-prepared documents and deliverables are maintained. 
  • Other duties as assigned by management. 
 
Qualifications
The qualified candidate must have a Bachelor's Degree in English, a technical discipline, or a related field OR a minimum of five years of experience in technical editing/writing, as approved by the Contracting Officer. Qualified Technical Writer/Editors should be proficient in Microsoft Office software suite; have strong organizational skills; and have developed written communication skills.
 
Due to the nature of the work, candidates must be US Citizens and will be required to pass a drug and alcohol screening. 
 
Specific skills and job knowledge will include:
  • Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work independently to assess client needs and the level-of-effort required to meet deadlines and maintain requisite levels of quality; 
  • Ability to understand and evaluate documents for content, structure, and format; and 
  • Ability to work cohesively with teams of authors and reviewers and to adapt quickly to changing schedules and deadlines.
