Job Responsibilities
Electrical Instrumentation & Controls (EIC) Engineer

?

POSITION SUMMARY: Independently initiates and completes engineering designs of electrical and control systems following the general instructions and directions of department manager with minimal additional supervision.  These systems and components may include but are not limited to:

 

  • Power distribution systems, consisting of 600 volt and less power supplies, grounding and lighting and cable/conduit lists
  • Instrumentation and control systems (electrical and pneumatic), consisting of process instrument loops, PLC ladder logic, control wiring diagrams and instrument lists

 

Develops various electrical calculations related to lighting, voltage drop, load sizing, arc flash potential to support design concepts.  Develops various instrumentation and control calculations required to support process design concepts.  Examples include instrument & instrument control loop accuracy, orifice sizing, and control & relief valve sizing.

 

Additionally, prepares reports, specifications and bills of material.  Reports to the Manager, Design Engineering.  Establishes and achieves schedule driven deadlines for multiple, and competing, tasks.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Essential Functions Statement(s)

 

  • Develops initial design concepts
  • Prepares calculations related to initial design concepts
  • Prepares specifications and reports to implement design concepts
  • Prepares Single line diagrams and develops key parameters for use by designers
  • Initiates and finalizes various pneumatic and electrical control schemes.
  • Reviews and approves initial drawings on assigned equipment and systems
  • Analyzes various design requirements and recommends possible solutions or alternate constructions
  • Responds to plant upset conditions, NCRs, root cause analysis and issues resolution
  • Demonstrated verbatim compliance with design and operating procedures
  • Provides information when required for cost estimating, such as layouts and processing sketches and cost data
  • Prepares presentation graphics/materials as required
  • Plans, directs and conducts independent assessments as appropriate.
  • Interfaces with internal and external regulatory organizations.

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Assists in the follow-up of prototype construction with outside vendors.
  2. Secures quotations and expedites materials and delivery.
  3. Reviews operating procedures

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  1. B.S.E.E., B.S.M.E., or other engineering degree with applicable experience
  2. Minimum ten (10) years of progressive on-the-job experience
    1. Nuclear industry related experience a plus
    2. DOE related experience a plus
  3. Professional registration; Strongly preferred
  4. Familiar with national consensus codes, e.g., NFPA 70, IEEE
  5. Well-rounded (i.e., inter-disciplinary) , practical (i.e., construction, start-up and operation) experience a plus
  6. Able to move from design concept to finished design and field implementation, including review and checking of drawings performed by designers and drafters
  7. Demonstrated success in a verbatim compliance environment
  8. Expertise with routine software, e.g. Word, Excel (additional analytical software experience a plus)
  9. AutoCAD experience a plus (not required)

 

Communication:  Ability to effectively communicate verbally and with all levels of management, site personnel and our client.

 

Computer Skills: Intermediate IT Knowledge – Must possess significant functional computer skills including use of mainstream business software including but not limited to: Microsoft Office 2016, Adobe Professional; Internet navigation

 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands or fingers to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
