Job Description
The Operator I for the Moab Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action (UMTRA) Project safely operates overhead cranes to remove and place lids on containers used for transporting low-level radioactive waste tailings at the Moab site. The Operator I? also performs a variety of duties related to decontamination, maintenance, repairs, and operation of facilities, structures, and equipment, and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 1–3 years of increasing job responsibilities, primarily in construction and/or general industry working around heavy equipment.
  • Practical skill and knowledge (but not proficiency) in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work.
  • Experience in work environments with exposure to all weather conditions and temperature extremes.
  • Ability to work in different types of personal protective equipment (half-face, full-face respirators, Tyvek, etc.) while performing various tasks/activities (e.g., climbing, walking, stopping etc.) in different work environments (e.g., cold, heat, etc.).
  • Physically able to perform job tasks, including lifting at least 50 lb alone.
  • Ability to qualify as a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Radiation Worker II and complete Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) worker qualification, and pass a HAZWOPER/respirator user medical exam.
  • Motivated and willing to work as part of a team and perform multiple job functions.
  • Ability to read and comply with project direction contained in project-specific plans and procedures.
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience on UMTRA type projects is highly desirable.
