?Quality Assurance Specialist


Comply with set safety standards while performing essential job functions. Assist Quality Assurance and administrative activities for Quality Assurance in support of safe, compliant, nuclear waste treatment, processing and disposal.  QAS reports to the Quality Engineering Lead.  Primary focus of this role will be receipt inspection, but other roles and responsibilities could be added when needed.




ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential Functions Statement(s)

  • Perform all assigned work activities safely in compliance with established work plans, procedures, and instructions
  • Perform receipt inspections, field inspections, surveillances, and assessments to determine compliance with established criteria under the direction of a QE
  • Clearly communicate results of activities verbally and in writing
  • Enter data and maintain SH&Q databases such as Manage Issues
  • Interact with persons at all levels within multiple departments at the TWPC, UTB-ORNL, and DOE
  • Complete routine forms and records
  • Generate and distribute reports, as needed
  • Approach assigned tasks with attention to detail, and possess a questioning attitude

Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)


Experience: 2 years of quality related experience, 1 of which is nuclear experience.  Related experience will be considered.


Preferred: Baccalaureate degree in Engineering or related science or equivalent; Prior records management and database use preferred; Knowledge of TRU Waste Processing Center (TWPC), SH&Q programs, processes, and procedures; Knowledge of SH&Q fundamentals including safety, health, quality, and radiation protection concepts.

Computer Skills: Proficiency in the use of MS Word, Access, Excel and FileMaker Pro.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit and talk, hear, and climb stairs. The employee is occasionally required to use hands or fingers to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must maintain qualification as a Radiological Worker I, and get annual physicals to be permitted access to waste processing facilities.


Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
