Job Description

North Wind Solutions is currently looking for Safety Specialists for work in Paducah, Kentucky.


Provides day-to-day direction and input to the Industrial Hygiene and Safety and Health (IH&SH) programs.
Provide ESH planning and oversight for modifications to site electrical switchyard and installation of new electrical relay system throughout the site.



-      Provides guidance and assistance for Infrastructure Services Team activities.

-      Ensures the program is in place to prevent accidents, identify hazards, and assure compliance with applicable regulations.

-      Investigates accidents and near misses; and enhances safe, efficient site operations.

-      Acts as the liaison between the Infrastructure Services Organization and the PGDP IH&SH Organizations.

-      Assists SST and subcontractors in all IH&HS-related activities, workplace hazard monitoring, and AHA development and implementation.

-      Responsible for selection, calibration, repair, and maintenance of IH&HS-related instrumentation.

-      Provides general oversight of all IH&HS and Health-related work activities, work planning and authorization, permitting, and regulatory compliance.

-      Provides all safety-related personnel training (to include HAZWOPER) pertinent to safe execution of all activities performed under the Infrastructure Services scope of work.

-      Performs periodic workspace evaluations to identify, mitigate, and eliminate unsafe conditions, at-risk behavior, and unnecessary hazards in the workplace.

-      Ensures and promotes worker safety ownership and involvement and fosters a consistently improving safety culture.

-      Distributes lessons learned information to minimize or eliminate the recurrence of inadequate performance, activities, or near misses.

-      Maintains all regulatory-required records, data, and documentation in accordance with the quality assurance plan.

-      Submits and produces required reports and deliverables.

-      Serves as coordinator for the DOE Computerized Accident/Incident Reporting System (CAIRS).

-      Serves as member on the Safety Team of Paducah (STOP) Committee.

-      Serves as Chairperson on the SST Safety Committee.


As appropriate and as assigned.




Experience implementing ESH controls for construction projects involving electrical hazards, excavations, asbestos, and PCB hazards.

Requires the minimum of a B.S. in Occupational Safety and Health or related technical field.   Five (5) years directly applicable EH&S program experience.   Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST) preferred but not required.



Requires moderate interpersonal and communication skills in dealing with others to ensure that customer requests or needs are met.  Acknowledges and clarifies customer inquiries, requests, or complaints to ensure that needs are identified, documented and addressed.



Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.



Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written and/or oral instructions; ability to deal with problems involving variables in non-standardized situations.


Communication: Communicates clearly and concisely in speech and writing.  Demonstrates understanding of and sensitivity to unspoken meaning and nonverbal cues.  Facilitates communication across the organization and effectively interfaces with customer, contractor, and site personnel on a daily basis.


Skill Sets: Demonstrates effective use of systems, tools and other resources to reflect understanding and clear insights of processes, systems and methodologies of process improvement.  Ability to visualize alternative processes and think conceptually. 


Reasoning Ability:  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. 



-      Demonstrated knowledge of applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, occupational safety and health policies, and procedures. 

-      Knowledge and experience in determining hazard controls based on review of chemical and toxicological hazards and concerns. 

-      Thorough knowledge of IH instrumentation use and interpretation of results. 

-      Understanding of IH and Safety issues as defined by the scope of work and associated Occupational Safety and Health performance requirements. 

-      Must be able to determine appropriate analytical techniques based on review of chemical and toxicological hazards. 

-      Demonstrated ability to develop and follow procedures and task requirements. 

-      Demonstrated ability to appropriately document survey and data collection results.  

-      Demonstrated ability to use different levels of PPE (including respiratory protection). 

-      Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with field, project management, and client representatives is essential. 

-      Demonstrated ability to review IH data and to interpret and explain results. 

-      Technical knowledge of industrial hygiene systems, principles, and calculations. 

-      Ability to identify deficiencies and to determine and facilitate corrective action and to monitor work. 

-      Working knowledge of hazardous material handling, testing, and storage concepts.

-      Ability to take initiative, to maintain confidentiality, to meet deadlines, and to work in a team environment essential.

-      Ability to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple/detail-oriented tasks.

-      Ability to obtain and hold a security clearance.
