Job Responsibilities

The Health and Safety /Industrial Hygienist (IH) Representative provides Safety and industrial hygiene support to the Moab UMTRA Project as assigned. Identifies, interprets, and assists management in the implementation of safety and industrial hygiene functional requirements. Initial work location will be the Moab UMTRA repository site located at Crescent Junction UT.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (includes the following, but not limited to)

  • Participating in initial task/activity/process design and development;
  • Physical walk-downs of tasks/jobsites/facilities;
  • Collection of exposure measurements using IH equipment.
  • Assist in the develop of Integrated Work Control Packages and
  • Preform oversight of work activities in accordance of approved plans.
  • Conduct and enter exposure assessment information into project database.
  • Work assignments may include support of Mechanic shop, Welding operations,
  • Hazardous waste operations, construction, and office/administrative settings.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of engineering, administrative, and PPE controls used to mitigate exposure to multiple types of occupational hazards.
  • Provides feedback to management to ensure implementation of requirements to meet regulatory and contractual requirements.
  • Performs assessments to evaluate compliance with requirements. 
  • Develop and review documents, procedures and reports
  • Develops solutions to complex problems, applying ingenuity, innovation, and creativity.
  • Must be able to work effectively under self- direction, including prioritizing tasks and assignments.
  • Supports Company goals for operational excellence and Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS).
  • Perform duties associated with the respiratory protection program (training, fit testing, inspecting/issuing, cleaning of respirators). Advancing to program administration.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

The Safety/IH Representative position requires a level of independence from local management influence to maintain program integrity.  This position is an oversite, advisory and support position for the assigned location and has no direct supervisory authority.

    Qualifications
    Demonstrated ability to interpret regulations, and company/customer ESH requirements for dissemination to project personnel.  Ability to interface with customer personnel on a daily basis.  Extensive knowledge and experience identifying hazards, corrective actions, and using Industrial Hygiene instruments.  Must be capable of working independently.  Excellent organization and communication skills.  Must be able to handle multiple tasks and projects while meeting all deadlines.   


    Ability to qualify as a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Radiation Worker II and complete OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) worker qualification, and pass a HAZWOPER/respirator user medical exam. 

    Experience using I.H. monitoring equipment and proficiency to managing an IH sampling data base is required.

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

    Bachelor of Science degree in H&S/IH plus 4 years of (DOE preferred) or equivalent, relevant work experience.  Ability to obtain a nationally recognized certification in H&S (CIH, CSP) within 2 years of hire.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read, analyze, and speak the English language.  Possesses effective technical writing skills. Ability to effectively communicate, present information and respond to questions from management, employees, clients.

    The physical demands of this job are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.  Physical demands may include working at a computer, walking to and from specific job sites on uneven ground, working outdoors in various weather conditions, lifting objects up to 50 pounds.  Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.
