Job Description

North Wind Portage is currently seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to support operations on our Luckey, OH project. 

Summary: 

The Heavy Equipment Operator will operate various types of on-site equipment to include but not limited to; trucks, bulldozers, excavators, motor graders, water trucks, loaders, skid-steers, and generators in a Beryllium and Radiologically Controlled Area.

Heavy Equipment Operators duties include but are not limited to: 

  • Maintains a clean and organized work area.
  • Performing all duties in accordance with project policies and procedures, and complying with all federal, state, and local regulations for secure and safe operation.
  • Conducting a thorough inspection of the equipment assigned.
  • Safely operating equipment in different configurations as assigned.
  • Performing work required in a timely manner and maintaining adequate production in order to meet service schedules.
Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma or equivalent and 5 years’ experience as a skilled equipment operator and familiarity with a variety of equipment, especially heavy-duty construction equipment such as (Komatsu and CAT).

  • Motivated and willing to work as part of a team and perform multiple job functions.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
  • Ability to apply reasoning and understanding to carry out detailed, but un-involved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to understand the operational characteristics of the assigned equipment.
  • Ability to understand basic maintenance requirements of the assigned equipment.
  • Ability to clearly communicate professionally, both orally and in written form, and to maintain records related to the job.
  • Possess the ability to execute tasks after receiving written or oral instructions.
  • Physically able to perform job tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in different types of personal protective equipment (full-face respirators, Tyvek, etc.) while performing various tasks/activities (e.g., climbing, walking, stopping, etc.) in different work environments (e.g., cold, heat, etc.).
  • Ability to qualify as a Radiation Worker and complete Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) worker qualification and pass a HAZWOPER/respirator user medical exam.
  • Must have knowledge of and comply with all regulations and procedures governing safe driving, and inspection and maintenance of equipment.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • May be required to pass a pre-employment background check.
  • Must be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must be able to receive a normal BeLPT test.
  • Ability to work in extreme environments and traverse uneven work surfaces associated with excavations and surface dirt work.   
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including overtime, weekends, and night shifts, pending demand.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 40-Hour HAZWOPER
  • First Aid, CPR and AED
  • 30-Hour OSHA
  • Equipment Qualification
