Job Description
The Machine Tool Services Group in the Materials Engineering Division (MED) within the Engineering Directorate has multiple openings for Machine Repairers In the Mechanical Discipline. Under close supervision, the successful candidate will be responsible for installing, testing, repairing, maintaining, or modifying basic mechanical and hydraulic systems on machine tools and related equipment in support of LLNL programs. These positions require close interactions with technical and supervisory personnel throughout the laboratory. The selected candidates may receive work assignments located at various locations, including Livermore and at Site 300. These positions will report to the Machine Tool Services Group Supervisor.

This position may require the successful candidate have the flexibility to work overtime, shift and or weekends to accomplish goals. The successful candidate will be required to pass various on-site training modules to pursue work assignments. 

Essential Duties
-Design, fabricate, install, maintain, or modify mechanical and hydraulic systems to improve the operation, reliability, and/or safety of LLNL's machine tools.
-Operate a variety of machine tools under job conditions to detect/diagnose malfunctions, or to reproduce parts.
-Install and/or relocate machine tools and related equipment.
-Use hand and powered tools that are typically used to maintain machine tool mechanical and hydraulic systems, including diagnostic equipment (such as levels, straight edges, records, and ball bars).
-Solve fundamental problems and make minimal decisions.
-Perform all assignments in accordance with ES&H, security, and business practice requirements and policies.

Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
-High school diploma, GED, or equivalent journey level education and experience (i.e., completion of an apprenticeship program or equivalent level of education/experience).
-Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
-Basic level of experience using hand and powered tools that are typically used to maintain machine tool mechanical and hydraulic systems, including basic diagnostic equipment with basic applications (e.g., electronic levels, auto-collimator, straight edges, recorders, and ball bars).
-Experience testing, installing, repairing, and maintaining basic machine tool mechanical and hydraulic systems.
-Knowledge of applicable OSHA & ES&H regulations.
-Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license with the ability to operate common motor vehicles including a 6000lb fork truck.
-Ability to become medically qualified to wear respiratory and protection equipment.

Desired Skills, Knowledge, Abilities
-AA degree in Mechanical Technology
-Experience with machine controllers and troubleshooting of associated servo systems.
-Familiarity with the electrical construction trade.

Special Requirements
