Job Description

The Director of Labor Relations is responsible for all labor relations matters in their designated project. This role will be the chief spokesperson in contract negotiations, responsible to plan for, negotiate, and implement collective bargaining agreement (CBA) renewals. Proactively interacts with and advises operations managers and regional leadership on a broad range of labor relations matters, including disciplinary actions and contract administration. The Director of Labor Relations will lead in handling complaints, settling disputes, and resolving grievances and conflicts, or otherwise negotiating with others.  Will actively represent the Company in arbitration cases and before the National Labor Relations Board.

 

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Prepares for and negotiates renewal labor agreements in accordance with corporate initiatives.
  • Coordinates with local and regional operations leadership to obtain alignment on negotiations strategy and direction.
  • Drafts contract proposals and counterproposals as necessary prior to and during negotiations.
  • Finalizes negotiations settlement and prepares a detailed Memorandum of Agreement for signature by the parties.
  • Establishes and maintains rapport with union leaders.
  • Advises and provides oversight to grievances, arbitration cases, and unfair labor practice charges.
  • Leads informative discussions and/or training sessions with operations leaders, HR colleagues, and Labor Relations teammates.
  • Contributes to the development and improvement of company-wide practices, processes and forms.
  • Collaborates to ensure legal compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Study legislation, arbitration decisions, and collective bargaining contracts to assess industry trends.
  • Lead in handling complaints, settling disputes, and resolving grievances and conflicts.
  • Communicate organizational policies and procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge of current developments in area of expertise.
  • Manager of subordinate(s) relating to labor relations.
  • Role reports to the Director of Human Resources.
 This position is contingent upon contract award. 
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Labor Relations, Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business, or a related field)
  • At least seven (7) years of experience as a Labor Relations Manager
  • At least three (3) years of experience managing people
