Job Description

The Labor Relations Specialists will be responsible for all administrative labor relations matters. Responsibilities will include the receipt and recording of employee grievances and dispute resolutions per the collective bargaining and by direction of the Labor Relations Director. Will work with the appropriate departments to ensure accurate tracking, reporting, and payment of Union dues on or before the 15th of every month. Will update and be involved in any personnel actions involving union employees for tracking and CBA compliance purposes.

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Handles routine labor relations and human resource inquiries related to policies, procedures, and bargaining agreements; refers complex matters to the Labor Relations Director.
  • Develop and maintain a grievance records system that is compliant with the collective bargaining agreement procedure.
  • Serves as the initial contact and liaison for intake and assessment of employee complaints.
  • Conducts initial interviews and gathers information for employee relations matters such as harassment allegations, work complaints, or other concerns; informs appropriate HR staff when additional investigation is required.
  •  Shall assist in address worker grievances and verify compliance with contractual protocols
  • Calculation and monthly reporting of Union dues to union committee.
  • Work with payroll to ensure timely payment of union dues.
  • Assist union employees with benefit administration. Processing, and enrollment into the HEWT, HSSP, HSPP as needed based on employee eligibility and plan requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with managers and union representatives daily to create positive working environment
  • Maintains knowledge and understanding of laws and regulations related to EEO, affirmative action, collective bargaining, unions, labor relations, and human resources.
  • Assists with preparation of documents and records required for contract negotiations, meetings, and negotiations with employee and labor organizations.
  • Assist with other administrative duties within Human Resources.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 This position is contingent upon contract award

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor's degree and 3 to 5 years of labor relations/human resources experience, OR
  • A Master’s degree in Human Resources Management and at least 2 years of experience in labor relations/human resources, OR
  • At least 7 years of experience in labor relations/human resources, OR
  • Any similar combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with labor relations and union environment
  • Knowledge of various employment laws and practices. 
  • Must be proficient with general computer use, e-mail, electronic calendars, word processing applications, spreadsheet applications, etc.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain at least a DOE “L” clearance
