Job Description
North Wind Construction Services is currently seeking Project Managers for construction projects in the Southeast Region! 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Manage, coordinate, and administer a project(s) from the conceptual stage through planning, engineering, procurement, construction, start-up, and contract close-out. Provide leadership in managing contracts including maintenance of schedules and milestones, coordinating participation of responsible entities and defining major task areas. Supervise development of budgets and schedules, monitor progress, and initiate action to ensure project objectives and schedules are met and work is performed within budget.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Review equipment and bulk material procurement methodology, schedules, expediting plans, and methods of delivery to ensure compatibility with project plans, schedules, and budget.

• Conduct periodic project and customer meetings to review progress and discuss issues. Ensure problems involving coordination, schedule, and the setting of priorities are resolved by the project teams.

• Prepare and/or direct the preparation of progress and special reports to customers and North Wind management.

• Provide for the administration of contractors providing construction services, materials, or equipment for the project.

• Manage P&L for project.

• Oversee the preparation of the Project Financial Status Reports (pFSR' s) for North Wind management.

• Obtain customer's acceptance of the work and document all turnover activities. Responsible for the preparation and submission of the final project report and prompt close-out of the prime contract.

• Assist in the training of new project managers through both formal training courses and on-the-job training.

• Responsible for managing, coordinating, and administering any of the following major and complex projects, i.e., major projects involving several organizations; major international projects; simultaneous management of several projects. Takes the lead in working with all participating entities.

• Responsible for managing, coordinating and administering major projects that may involve several North Wind organizations.

• Take the lead in working with all departments including Engineering, Project Controls, Procurement, Construction, Labor Relations, Deputy CFO, and other services required for the project.

 

• Conduct and review performance appraisals of assigned personnel in accordance with approved procedures.

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

BS degree in engineering, science or related field preferred OR 5 years of relevant experience. Five (5) or more years of relevant project management experience with DOE, DOD, or other federal agency. Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects simultaneously with budgets of $2-$20M or more.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

• Thorough understanding of the scope of work covered by the prime contract.

• Has demonstrated knowledge of environmental remediation, D&D and/or construction, engineering and procurement, and other project- related activities, including their interfaces and interdependencies.

• Broad knowledge of industry standards.

• Thorough knowledge of all aspects of the scope of work, including construction, engineering, procurement, project controls, and financial phases, including their interfaces and interdependencies.

• Knowledge of financial reporting, performance metric management, and profit & loss (P&L) management.

• Strong leadership and supervisory skills to include oversight and coordination of large technical and labor teams

• Experience working with union and craft labor is a plus


SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• Demonstrated ability to manage very difficult and complex projects and to take collective action, monitor work, manage conflict, and coordinate the activities of others.

• Ability to supervise individuals at many different levels (i.e., craft, technicians, health & safety, professionals).

• Skilled in PC usage and associated software including MS Office (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint).

• Ability to work with client interfaces including contracts and management to ensure client relationships and communications are maintained

 

CERTIFICATIONS PREFERRED:

Project Management Professional (PMP)


MENTAL & COGNITIVE DEMANDS:

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports, operating instructions and correspondence. Ability to communicate clearly and succinctly on a technical level.

• Ability to work with mathematical concepts. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions.

• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.

• Ability to walk, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.

• Ability to perform repetitive movements of the fingers, hands, wrists and arms.

• Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.


JOB DIMENSIONS:

Supervision Received:

• Reports to and receives technical and operational guidance from the respective Regional Managers.

 

Supervision Exercised:

• Provides direction to key project personnel.

 

Interface Required:

• Represents the principal contact with customers and North Wind management throughout the duration of the project. Maintains contact with management personnel from suppliers, subcontractors, and governmental agencies as appropriate.

• Maintains management level relationships with other participating entities responsible for performing services in connection with the project and with appropriate organizations in the community.

• Ensures that all customer contact, including major correspondence and working relationships between North Wind and the client, is maintained throughout the duration of the project.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to normal office conditions when not in the field.
