Job Description
Ensure timely delivery of high-quality engineering services by a team of engineers to internal and external clients, while facilitating process improvement, all in an A/E environment with an emphasis on Federal contracts. Foster the growth and development of engineers in your charge.
  • Leads team of 10-15 engineers, managing their workload, task prioritization and ensuring quality of deliverables.
  • Performs technical oversight of evaluations, designs, and generation/reviews of construction documents for civil grading, roadway, bridge, and water-related public works infrastructure projects.
  • Forecasts and manages the workload of engineers in the team under your charge, in coordination with Project Engineers. (Project Engineers manage business development interfaces with internal and external clients, and they manage schedule and cost for engineering work.)
  • Proactively ensures quality, timeliness, compliance, and value to the client of work performed, through example, by means of tracking and periodic reporting for the team, and through involvement in process improvement (LEAN, etc.).
  • Responsible as primary PE for signing and sealing projects, identifying and procuring additional registrations when not available internally. 
  • Devotes a substantial portion of individual time contributing to team deliverables, from a technical, project management and/or proposal preparation standpoint.
  • Conducts periodic staff reviews/evaluations, performance appraisals and facilitates career development for the group.
  • Interfaces with staff both in-person and remotely (videoconferencing, phone, etc.). 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

  • Bachelor’s degree and 15+ years’ experience in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field and a Registered Professional Engineer. Master’s degree and 10+ years’ experience in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or utilities engineering and/or an MBA, including design-build experience preferred.
  • 5+ years managing a team of 10 or more engineers in an A/E environment, or 7+ years managing a team of 4 or more engineers in a related environment or demonstrated equivalent experience. 10+ years managing a multi-discipline team of engineers preferred.
  • Experience managing a geographically dispersed team desired but not required.
  • Available and willing to travel, up to 25%, for field investigation and testing, and for visiting staff/clients.
  • Willing to work overtime as circumstances warrant.
  • Able to work effectively in an office environment, but also able to work safely in the field – e.g., walk-downs and inspections at construction projects. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work accurately, follow procedures and schedules, and prioritize multiple tasks for highly technically capable individuals in a complex matrix environment.
  • United States Citizenship required.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability preferred, if they exist in addition to required. 
  • Experience delivering engineering designs and analyses to government clients, e.g., USACE, DOD, DOE, NAVFAC.
  • Experience with earned value reporting and baseline management.
  • Experience with BIM/ACAD MEP/3D/REVIT.
  • PMP certification.
  • Experience with nuclear containment and radiation hazard mitigation.
  • Able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • Experience with MEP design and analysis software, (e.g., Revit, ACAD MEP, Autodesk Inventor, Trane Trace, or other similar software packages).
