Job Description
The Architectural Historian will support Fort Huachuca’s Environmental and Natural Resources Division in southeast Arizona as part of contracted on-site staff. Duties include: 

  • Conducting archival research and providing documentation to determine NRHP eligibility;
  • Conducting facility assessments for needed and planned repairs, updates, and maintenance;
  • Providing reports for Section 106 and Section 110 consultation;
  • Reviewing work orders for impacts to historic structures;
  • Providing recommendations to maintain historic integrity;
  • Reviewing, editing and writing plans and reports;
  • Assisting with public outreach and education events;
  • Assisting with cultural resources field surveys when needed.
Qualifications
  • Archaeologist, historic preservationist or architectural historian with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Historic Preservation, Architectural History, or other degree related to cultural resources management of historic structures or preservation architecture with a concentration in American architecture and 4 years postgraduate professional experience in these fields is required.
  • Master’s degree in Historic Preservation, Architectural History, or other degree related to cultural resources management of historic structures or preservation architecture with a concentration in American architecture and 2 years post-graduate professional experience in these fields also qualifies.
  • Must have academic-level writing skills, completed a Section 110 course (listed on transcripts), experience in Section 106 and Section 110 consultation, and command of Microsoft Office suite software.
  • Professional experience in the southwest, especially with Army facilities dating from the late 1800s is desired.
*Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated technical knowledge, experience and expertise in the preservation of
properties eligible for or listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Secretary of Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties; as well as professional experience in Arizona with the Arizona State Historic Preservation Office, including the preparation of State of Arizona Property Inventory forms. 
 
Desired Skills:
  • Professional experience writing and reviewing compliance reports
  • GIS/GPS capability.

Special Skills Training, Certification and Testing Required:

  • Completion of Section 110 class (as listed on transcripts).
  • Employee will be asked to complete Section 106 basic and advanced training
  • OSHA 30-hr Construction Site safety training.
  • Must pass background check for government network access.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and basic background check.
