Job Description
The Systems Engineer will provide electronic systems and network support to the USCG Rescue21 Alaska (R21 AK) program, to include R21 infrastructure, Vessel Tracking Service (VTS), National Automated Identification System (NAIS), and the Digital Selective Calling (DSC) systems across Alaska.   
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on USCG equipment and facilities.
Provide written documentation/updates as required. This includes, but is not limited to- PM reports, CM ticket updates, inventory tracking/updates and reports, After Action reports, expense reports, travel vouchers, safety training, etc.
Communicate any site conditions that affect or have the potential to affect site operations immediately to team project manager.
Communicate and coordinate with managers, technicians, customers, and 3rd party contractors to eliminate or minimize downtime of any/all operational assets.
Provide on call response for both local and remote equipment.
Work with a team during spring/fall to conduct scheduled preventative maintenance trips to remote communication sites.
Maintain control and inventory of CG and company owned test equipment, materials, and other assets.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position may also be assigned occasional duty in other areas of Alaska to cover leaves of absence or to assist in project work.
Assist other team members in daily activities and projects.
Perform daily remote monitoring of SCADA equipment.
 
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:             
This position will require up to 40% travel to other areas of Alaska in support of Corrective and Preventative Maintenance tasks. 
Candidate must live in Juneau, AK 
Must be a US citizen and able to pass a background check with ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
Valid US Driver’s License.
Must be able to pass a drug test prior to employment.
Must be willing/able to fly in helicopters and work in extreme conditions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Medium physical workload.
Employee must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading.  Also required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
Specific physical requirements include, but are not limited to, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, walking, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing and performing repetitive motions.  Maintain equilibrium to prevent falling when moving, walking, standing, kneeling or crouching – particularly on narrow, uneven, irregular, slippery surfaces, going up or down ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps poles or other objects using hands, arms, feet or legs.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The worker is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions, noise sufficient to cause the worker to shout.  The worker is subject to a variety of physical conditions, proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electric current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions – fumes, odors, dusts, mist, gases or poor ventilation.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

Education and Experience:
High School diploma or GED Equivalent 
Minimum five years’ experience (within the last six years) demonstrated in the following disciplines: analog/digital telecom; digital point to point microwave; HF/VHF radios; remote hybrid power systems and marine radar, SCADA / PLC controllers.
Ability to travel up to 40%.

Skills and Abilities: 
Must have experience with the Motorola ASTRO25 digital communications platform.
Proficiency with laptop computers using Microsoft operating systems, serial, IPv4 packet switching and routing technology.
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED: 
IT Networking / Security certification (e.g. CompTIA Network+, Security+, etc.)
Must exhibit a high degree of interpersonal skills.
Experience in data communications, RF / Microwave / Telecom.
Experience with industry electronic test equipment (IFR / Anritsu / Midtronics / Bird / Rohde & Schwarz).
Knowledge of small engine maintenance and generators, Solid Oxide Fuel Cells, solar charging systems, battery power systems, and cabling.
Be able to obtain or maintain an Active Secret Clearance
Have excellent verbal and written communication skills with solid organizational skills a plus
Able to read and interpret schematics.
